Biography

Monotronic is an LA-based band that seamlessly bridges the worlds of indie rock, pop, and indietronica. Drawing stylistic inspiration from artists like The Killers and Phoenix, Monotronic infuses their sound with distinctive world music influences, carving out a unique musical identity that stands apart.

Imagine an intrepid backpacker, driven by an adventure-seeking spirit, returning to the bustling streets of New York City after nearly a decade of globe-trotting—exploring the jungles of Sumatra and the vibrant landscapes of India—only to channel those experiences into groundbreaking music. That’s the essence of Monotronic: genre-defying, impossible to categorize, yet unmistakably unified by the creative vision of its founder.

At the helm is Ramsey Elkholy, an anthropologist, musician, and producer whose global perspective and artistic sensibilities breathe life into Monotronic’s dynamic sound. The New York-based collective combines dancefloor-ready grooves with masterful instrumentation and eloquent songwriting, earning a reputation as both enigmatic and innovative since their debut in 2019.

Monotronic’s rotating ensemble boasts an impressive pedigree, featuring musicians who have shared stages or studio sessions with legends like Joe Jackson, Robert Randolph, The Spin Doctors, and Dweezil Zappa. The band has captivated audiences at iconic New York City venues and festivals, including Disc Jam and Meeting of the Minds. Following their 2019 self-titled debut album, Monotronic garnered acclaim from notable publications such as Relix, Rolling Stone, Hype Magazine, Rock Cellar Magazine, and Grateful Web.
