Norwegian Oslo-based artist, songwriter and producer MaVe, alias Marita Vestad, makes dramatic music, ranging from elegantly-produced ballads with quirky twists, to heavy compositions with raw attitude. With a distinctive voice in productions that experiment with soundscapes alternating between electronic and organic, MaVe offers a personal touch with deeply revealing lyrics about intense emotions.
Influenced by creators such as Labrinth, Sia and James Blake, MaVe has also been compared to early Lorde and Norwegian acts Highasakite and Emilie Nicholas. Her songs are straightforward and honest, perhaps best demonstrated by the title of her 2023 debut album Crap I shouldn’t say out loud and shitloads of ballads, which she wrote, recorded, played and produced herself. The album garnered significant attention for MaVe in the Norwegian music scene, with placements in numerous editorial playlists, radio rotation, and strong reviews from outlets such as VG and P3, marking her as an artist to watch.
Her music has also been featured in TV series like ‘Jævla Homo’ and seasons 1 and 2 of ‘Lovleg’ (NRK). ”MaVe is now ready with her second album; Ecstatic/Perplexed, set to be released on 14th of March. The artist continues to be a creative powerhouse, doing the whole package herself from writing, producing and recording, to editing her own visuals.
On this new album she experiments with genre boundaries, mixing Scandi-navian experimental with catchy pop melodies and lyrics exploring the back and forth between ecstatic emotions and the perplexed more lonely parts of the mind. In 2024, she released three singles from the upcoming album; “Extraordinary”, “WEAK” and “Tolerate.” These releases has led to features in blogs such as Indie Boulevard, The Good Stuff In Between and was listed in BALLADE’s: This Week’s Music Videos. The singles landed several playlist placements across the streaming platforms such as NMF Norway, NMF Den-mark, New Music Discovery by THE LINE OF BEST FIT , Norwgian TIDAL’S tracks of the week and Apple’s New Music Daily (Norway and Sweden) and Future Hits.
