George Garner

Editor-In-Chief, Music Week

Biography

A highly experienced editor and journalist of over 17 years, George Garner is the Editor-In-Chief of the U.K.’s leading music trade publication, Music Week.

Having joined as the title’s Deputy Editor in 2017, George was appointed to head up all of Music Week’s operations in January 2021. Included in his remit is overseeing the brand’s two hugely successful, prestigious events, the Music Week Awards and Music Week Women In Music Awards, its essential monthly print publication and website, as well as its yearly directory and weekly chart packs, the latter done in close partnership with the Official Charts Company.

Continuing to build on its storied, 60-plus-year legacy, Music Week’s coverage leads and shapes the conversations that truly matter to the music industry. Under George’s tenure, the title has welcomed everyone from superstars like Olivia Rodrigo and Elton John to its pages, alongside countless CEOs, presidents, managers, songwriters and more. Its events – long established as unmissable dates in the British music calendar – continue to sell out each year.

Before all of this, George began his career in music in 2008, first as a freelance writer for, at the time the U.K.’s biggest-selling weekly music magazine. From there he would occupy a host of senior staff roles at the title, with his work also appearing in titles such as MOJO Magazine, Q, Planet Rock and more over the years. When he is not writing or editing, he can usually be found in the queue for Pearl Jam merch.

In a career that has now spanned hundreds of features covering all areas of the music business, he has interviewed global superstars like Dolly Parton, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Pink and AC/DC, as well as leading executives, managers, entrepreneurs, campaigners, broadcasters, and scores of award-winning songwriters and producers.
